If you are fun, outgoing and passionate about teaching people to sail then being a Yacht Trainer with Trek-Adventures could be for you. You will be teaching guests (often with little or no experience of sailing) how to stay safe afloat and how to enjoy a yachting holiday. You will also be offering sailing refreshers to those that have been on yachting holidays before.
The basic format of our Introduction to Sailing holidays, which is where our Yacht Trainers work, is a 6 day training week for guests. The first 3 days of their holiday are spent with you onboard teaching them core skills such as hoisting the sails, radio use, going about and mooring. Each day you return to our base harbour and you do not stay onboard overnight. The next day is our shorebased day where our more experienced Trainers take it in turns to deliver key theory information such as chart work. This is a great fun day as everyone heads to our hotel and we run theory sessions in the shade of the bar by the poolside. Once the theory is finished the guests are free to enjoy a day at the hotel or exploring the local area. The last 2 days are our adventure days where each boat still has a Trainer onboard but there is switch from teaching new skills to simply consolidating new skills and boosting confidence. On the adventure days we sail a little further and often find a beach or quiet bay for guests to anchor in overnight. Again, you do not stay onboard overnight. You reside at the staff accommodation.
The key thing with all our holiday experiences is to ensure that the guests are having fun. Fun and safety are the responsibility of each and every trainer.
The general aim of our Introduction to Sailing (Yachting) holidays is to enable people to have the confidence to then enjoy a Flotilla Holiday or Yacht Charter in the future.
In addition to skippering our Introduction to Sailing boats our yacht Trainers also take it in turns to skipper our day yacht. This is a boat that our hotel guests can book to enjoy a day of sailing with you at the helm. It is not a tuition day, although some guests may enjoy tuition. The Day Yacht experience is all about giving the guests a day to remember, for many guests this is the highlight of their holiday. As such exceptional customer service is required and an ability to be professional yet friendly is essential.
We are happy to hear from both experienced and new Yacht Trainers. You will be given a full induction before teaching alone. You will be given a pre-set syllabus to teach and many guests will enjoy working towards set qualifications with you. Others may just enjoy the thrill of learning to sail a yacht without the desire for a certificate.
You will be based on the Greek island Kefalonia where we have 2 yacht bases and two beach clubs. Your main place of work will be at Lixouri yacht base where we have our Introduction to Sailing boats and our Day Yacht.
