Legal counsel
The EF group is looking for an ambitious Legal Counsel who wants an exciting job in a very international environment. In this role you will be involved in a broad range of areas and provide legal advice as well as proactive support to the business in a variety of legal matters all over the world.
As Legal Counsel, your main responsibilities will include:
- Contact person for general legal matters for some of the business units as well as group wide information technology related projects and agreements
- Review, draft and negotiate third party supplier agreements, including technology services, marketing or business analytic tools, consultancy agreements, collaboration, agent and partnership agreements, property lease agreements, etc.
- Review, draft and negotiate intra-group agreements, including service agreements, license agreements, loan agreements, etc.
- Review and advise on employment and labor matters, including employment agreements across all EF markets (ex-U.S. and China), in coordination with local advisors
- Advise on consumer related legislation such as marketing laws, EU directives related to customer purchase terms and conditions, EU travel regulations, information requirements, consumer rights and data protection
- Monitor and advise senior management and other business partners on laws, regulations, issues in connection with different businesses
- Work with business partners to proactively prevent, identify and manage travel and education sector risks to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Maintain the intra-company website for the Central Legal Team with current templates, policies and training material
- Conduct trainings with relevant teams on contract review, marketing, new legislation or other topics
- Assist with disputes resolution matters and manage external advisors
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Law degree; UK or Swiss qualified is preferred
- Post graduate degree in foreign jurisdiction and/or foreign working experience (in particular in EU) is an advantage
- At least 3-5 years of relevant legal experience preferably gained at a leading law firm
- Experience working in an international environment
- A strong drive, high integrity, excellent communication skills and an ability to build relationships at all levels.
- An excellent command of English, both written and spoken, as the role requires the ability to negotiate contracts and provide concise legal advice in business English. Professional working proficiency in another relevant language is a plus.
- Excellent communication and drafting skills in English. Ability to articulate proposals and issues clearly, balancing an ability to speak to technical legal issues within a broader commercial context
- Sound commercial judgement, intellect and confidence to take the lead in negotiations with both internal and external counterparties.
- Strong ability to solve practical problems in addition to complex legal issues and adopt a pragmatic approach and common sense to align legal requirements with the needs of the business.
